You’re lovely!

The good kind of fat!
The good kind of fat!

You look great! You’ve lost weight! Your dress is fabulous! I love your hair! Compliments – who’d believe them! Until recently I refused to accept them, didn’t believe them, and they were usually met with, oh I’m so bloated or I’ve lots of weight yet to loose, or this old thing, or it needs a good wash! To be honest compliments aren’t something that were thrown my way very often ever, I do remember as a child getting them but they were more comments ‘Oh you’re very tall’, Oh we’d need to put a brick on your head to stop you growing’, ‘Oh you’re very pale’ were among a few that stuck with me for life – I spent years slouching as a result and more years fake tanning, applying make up that was too dark or telling people that no, I was not sick, its just my complexion!

But yesterday something changed all of that – I was at the gym and as I was leaving after a class a girl approached me and said ‘ excuse me, I just have to say you look reallly reallly healthy, what do you do?’ I replied, ‘thank you’! I felt a million dollars! It was by far the best compliment I have ever received and I skipped out of that gym! Its been my aim since beginning this journey – look, feel and be healthy! So I guess I’m doing something right!
Giving compliments is a great way of making people feel good about themselves and giving them a boost. Receiving them (when you learn to accept them) is even better!
How do you take compliments? Do you shy away from them? What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received? How did it make you feel?
